Install
video-write is a part of the video library. You do not run it yourself: you type /video and describe what you want, and Claude uses this part when it is needed. Installing the library installs this part too.

Your agent may run these scripts on your machine. A maintainer has read every one in full, and the CLI lists the files when you install. You can read them on GitHub first.

Video writer
Writes the text files a video is built from, then checks them with a script. The agent writes; write-check.mjs judges the structure, the sources and the Arabic rules. <skill> below is the folder that holds this SKILL.md. Two modes: explain and showcase (kinetic lines are written with the video skill's references/kinetic.md). Every script is held to the video skill's references/craft.md.
Use when
- The user wants a script, storyboard or hook for a short video (explainer or showcase).
- A
projects/<slug>/folder has a brief but noscript.mdyet.
Don't use when
- The user wants audio, captions, edits or a render: use
video-voiceorvideo-core. - The mode is a story, ad, listicle or remix: not built. Offer explain, showcase or a kinetic short.
- The user wants numbers, quotes or reviews you cannot source. Never invent them.
Steps
- Pick or create
projects/<slug>/. Ask only for what is missing: mode, topic, language (enorar), format, length, audience. - Write
brief.json(fields in<skill>/assets/brief.schema.json: title, mode, lang, format, audience, goal, promise, lengthSeconds, tone, cta). - Write
script.md: one[id] lineper sentence of narration, each followed by an indentedbeat:line (beats inreferences/explain-mode.mdorreferences/showcase-mode.md; hooks inreferences/hooks.md). Open with the payoff, not a "storytime" intro. Put the call to action after the payoff. - Explain mode: write
facts.md(- [f1] claim. Source: <link or file>) and tag each step, edge case and number withfact: <id>. Use only sources the user gave or you read this session; otherwise leave the claim out or mark it[needs-source]for the user. - Write
hooks.mdwith 5 alternative openings (first 3 seconds). - Explain mode: write
storyboard.md, a table with scene, kind, narration line ids, props as JSON in backticks, seconds, transition (references/storyboard.md; kinds invideo-core/references/scene-kinds.md). Showcase mode skips this: the showcase chain buildsvideo.json. - Arabic: write natively (not a translation), spell numbers as words, add diacritics only where a word is ambiguous (
references/arabic.md). Say the Arabic is a draft for a native speaker to review. - Run
node <skill>/scripts/write-check.mjs <project>. Fix every ERROR and weigh each warning; run it again until it exits 0. - Stop and show the storyboard. Only after the user approves, run
node <skill>/scripts/storyboard.mjs <project>to writevideo.json.
Budget
-
Search first (grep, glob, symbol search). Read line ranges, not whole files.
-
Read at most 8 files per step. If you need more, write down what you learned and narrow the question.
-
Do not re-read a file you just wrote or edited.
-
Prefer the smallest command output that answers the question: head, tail, quiet flags, filtered lists.
-
Write each file once, then run the check. Do not reread files you just wrote.
-
Keep scripts short: about 3 words a second at voice speed 1.1, so 35 s is roughly 100 words. Write long, then cut a third.
Output
- The project folder, the files written, and the check result (errors fixed, warnings left and why).
- The 5 hooks and which one the script uses, and the storyboard table for approval.
- Which claims have a source and which were left out for lack of one. For Arabic: that the text needs native review.
Done when
write-check.mjsexits 0 and the user has seen the storyboard.video.jsonis written only after approval; no statistic, quote or review is invented.
